Girls will be girls!!

This weekend I had the pleasure of spending time with my dear friend's daughter Alexa. She called me the night before to tell me our plan. Since I am an avid planner of everything, I was excited to hear the schedule for our mini-slumber party. First, we were going to make cake and cupcakes. Check....we narrowed that down to only cupcakes, mostly batter...the best part. Second, we were going to go to the movies. Check...we rented a movie, Twilight...of course!! Didn't really watch most of it, every time Edward was in a scene a squeal bellowed from the other couch followed by laughter and conversation on how Rob Pattinson is "sooooooo cute!!!" Third, we would go out to eat. Check...$5.00 Hot and Ready from Little Caesar's thank you very much. And last but not least....hair and make up....Check!!

During hair and make-up while laying on my bed with a towel underneath and Alexa brushing my face with powder and blush telling me how beautiful I was going to be, I thought about myself at that age. I was not your typical girly girl. My Mom had given up on putting me in a dress around six years old and playing with Barbie's and doll's....it wasn't my thing. I was at the creek with the boys (they didn't want me there, but I didn't care) looking for crawdads and playing kickball with the older kids across the street (they didn't want me there either, again...didn't care and still have the bruises to prove it...I hate kickball) or begging to go fishing with my Dad and Pappaw. But one thing never changed, I LOVED make-up. There was something about painting my face with different shades and making my lips shiny that me feel so spectacular. I could see that same sparkle in Alexa's eyes when it was my turn to put make up on her. As she laid down she said, "do whatever you want, just don't make look like a clown and no mascara, it makes my eyes burn." Ok, the pressure was on, she was serious, I had to do my best to make her look good. The last thing I wanted, was disappoint a pro...you should've have seen MY lips!!! I had four different lip glosses on and one lipstick. I had the best looking lips in town, but if you wanted to kiss me you'd probably just slide right off. The big reveal was after the hair was complete, Alexa had discovered mousse, so my hair was one sticky mess pulled up in a clip, I couldn't tangle her hair so I stuck a bandanna on.....and whoala....there we were together in the mirror Fergie in the distance...G-L-A-M-O-U-RUS...Glamourus...Glamourus. It just goes to show, you don't need fancy dresses or high heels to be a girl, just a little make-up...ok maybe a lot of make-up, some junk food, a cute boy to talk about and lots and lots of laughter.
