I know, I know...I've been on a little hiatus. I've been so busy but yet I feel like I've accomplished nothing. I couldn't let another day go by without writing about the passing of two great Hollywood legends. Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett. Well, three legends, including Ed McMahon on Tuesday, they say it happens in three's...whoever "they" are. I heard about Farrah while at work and then Michael on my way to dinner. At first I thought it was a joke. Why people joke about something like that is beyond me but they do, but with a little investigation I quickly found out it wasn't a joke.
I've heard people complain about when the media found out about Michael Jackson it was like Farrah who? Before going to bed last night, I thought everything was equally and respectfully done...until this morning. The front page of the local paper as well as two other pages are dedicated to Michael Jackson and a small write up about Farrah in the Obituaries along with the local people who have also passed in Kentucky. Really?? At least give Farrah a little bit of the front page. As we all know, Farrah had battled cancer for 2 years and her health took a turn for the worse in the previous days. One reporter stated they were "expecting Farrah's death, but not expecting the death of Michael Jackson." Argh!!! She might not have been an "icon" like MJ, but trust me she made a lot of young boys happy in her time. She was a beautiful woman and a great actress who (I think) deserved a little bit more attention then what she received. I'm sure this will all change as the days roll on with media stories and funeral arrangements.
As soon as I knew the death of MJ was real, I knew the streets throughout the world would flood with die hard fans that would sing and dance to celebrate the life of the King of Pop. This is exactly what happened. People made signs, dressed up in full Michael Jackson fashion, shared stories, cried and laughed together in memory of this fallen legend. Radio stations played Michael's songs and MTV played his videos all night long. Hearing all of this really made me think about how Michael influenced my own life, because in some way shape or form he has affected all of us. I don't care how old you are, at some point in your life, you have imitated a dance move that Michael created, sang or quoted lyrics from one of his songs. Come on people, he's not presently the number one selling artist of all time for nothing. Yes, that's right...presently number one. Thriller is the number one album sold world wide. Amazing!! Just think what sales are going to be now that he is gone. Was that inappropriate? Whenever I think of Michael Jackson I think about how much I LOVED him when I was around 11 or 12. I tried (again...tried) to moonwalk every chance I got, still do on a occasion. Whenever I hear his music I sing at the top of my lungs and no matter what song it is I always yelp "Sha-mon." I used to have a black purse with his picture on it (the one pictured above...totally hot) and a matching purple wallet of course!! At that time in my life Billie Jean was by far my favorite song (Dirty Diana became my all time favorite). Oh, how I wish I still had that purse, I proudly would have carried it today. Hopefully, some young girl or boy, is dancing in the streets mourning the loss of their idol, with a white glove on and a kick ass black purse over their shoulder. What's your favorite memory or favorite song by Michael Jackson?
